Dr Andrew J. Brough CM(SA)Practising marketers need to demonstrate a deep appreciation of Marketing Leadership. Marketing Leadership involves taking a stakeholder view of the organisation and then mobilizing the organisation internally so that it keeps improving, innovating, adapting, and delivering; while externally focuses relentlessly on customer needs. Research shows that leaders who apply this dual leadership focus achieve greater business impact and career success. The presentation explores the key characteristics of effective leaders against the backdrop of ongoing volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) in today’s market. It is based on a philosophy of Authentic Leadership.

Various leadership styles are examined and recommendations are made on how to create greater convergence in a Marketing Team. The relationship between individual leadership, corporate leadership and governance is also explored.

The presentation addresses 3 key questions:
